Lamps

The following examples apply to products that are electrical and electronic equipment according to ElektroG (§ 3 number 1 ElektroG). 

Electrical and electronic equipment that can be both b2c, as well as b2b equipment

  • Gas discharge lamps
  • Compact fluorescent lamps
  • LED lamps
  • Fluorescent lamps

Gas discharge lamps, that can be used in private households

  • Discharge lamps
  • Compact fluorescent lamps (so-called energy saving lamps)
  • Fluorescent lamps
  • Metal halide lamps
  • Neon lamps
  • Mercury vapour lamps
  • UVC lamps for fish tanks, ponds, hobbies

Lamps except gas discharge lamps, that can be used in private households

  • LED lamps (also with additional function, eg. LED lamp with loudspeaker)
  • LED filament bulbs (LED filament lamps)

Lamps for use in other than private households only

  • Gas discharge lamps / LED lamps for public street lighting
  • Special lamps for medical and industrial use

Misinterpretation/Electrical and electronic equipment that does not fall into category 3

  • The term ’lamp‘ is often used for appliances that are actually luminaires (e.g. desk ’lamp’, torch ’lamp’) Luminaires are allocated to category 4 or 5.
  • Lamps that are permanently installed in luminaires and cannot be removed without permanently damaging the unit, are luminaires and therefore are in category 4 or 5.
  • Conventional filament bulbs and halogen filament bulbs are out of scope (§ 2 paragraph 2 number 3 ElektroG).
